Translating the transition: the translator-detective in Post-Soviet fiction

This article explores the ways in which figure of translator-detective contemporary Russian literature functions to express and neutralize a range fears anxieties engendered by post-Soviet transition. Tracing roots motif translator back F. M. Dostoevsky ’s Crime Punishment, paper then examines translator-hero detective fiction best-selling authors Aleksandra Marinina, Boris Akunin, Dar’ia Dontsova, Polina Dashkova. Representatives embattled intelligentsia, their translator-detectives embody resistance mindless cultural borrowing from West.
